Why Choose Natura® Drainable Pouch with InvisiClose®
This pouch delivers three essential features for confident ostomy management: the InvisiClose® integrated closure that provides secure, clip-free sealing without fumbling with external clamps; a built-in deodorizing filter that automatically vents gas while neutralizing odors to prevent ballooning; and opaque odor-barrier film that provides complete discretion without visibility concerns. Understanding InvisiClose® Closure System
How InvisiClose® Works:
Traditional drainable pouches require separate plastic clamps or clips to seal the tail after emptying. InvisiClose® integrates a secure closure mechanism directly into the pouch tail design:
To Empty:
- Open the InvisiClose® closure by separating the integrated seal
- Direct tail into toilet and allow pouch to drain completely
- Wipe tail interior and exterior clean with toilet paper
To Reseal:
- Align the closure edges carefully
- Press firmly along the entire closure line to engage the integrated seal
- Verify seal integrity before resuming activities
Advantages Over Traditional Clamps:
- No separate devices to purchase, carry, or lose
- Faster, more convenient emptying—especially in public restrooms
- More hygienic (smooth integrated design vs. clamp with crevices)
- Better for impaired hand function (simpler mechanism)
- More discreet (no hard plastic bulge at pouch bottom)
- One less thing to manage in your ostomy supply inventory
Integrated Filter Technology
How the Filter Works:
The integrated filter typically located near the top of the pouch performs two critical functions:
Gas Venting: Automatically releases intestinal gas buildup through a special membrane, preventing the pouch from inflating like a balloon. This maintains a flat, discreet profile under clothing.
Odor Control: Gas passes through deodorizing material (often activated charcoal) that captures and neutralizes odor molecules before gas exits to the atmosphere.
Filter Performance and Maintenance:
- Filters work continuously throughout the 1-2 day pouch wear period
- Most effective with formed to semi-formed output
- Liquid output can saturate filters more quickly, reducing effectiveness
- No maintenance required—simply replace pouch when filter effectiveness declines
- Some pouches include filter covers to protect from water during showering
With Filter vs. Without Filter:
- With Filter (This Pouch): Automatic gas release, reduced ballooning, hands-free convenience, continuous odor control
- Without Filter: Manual "burping" required, more prone to ballooning, user controls all venting, liquid deodorant drops needed
For colostomy users who produce gas, filters are often essential for comfort and discretion.
Opaque vs. Transparent Film
Opaque Film (This Product):
- Complete privacy and discretion
- No visibility of pouch contents
- Confident coverage in all situations
- Preferred for social/professional settings
- Eliminates concerns about transparency
- Cannot visually monitor output without emptying
Transparent Film:
- Clear visibility of output
- Visual monitoring of consistency, color, volume
- Helpful for new ostomates learning output patterns
- Training aid for identifying issues
Choosing Between Them:
Choose Opaque if:
- You prioritize complete discretion and privacy
- You're experienced with ostomy management
- Your output is stable without recent complications
- You prefer not seeing pouch contents
- You're in professional/social situations requiring confidence
Choose Transparent if:
- You're recently post-operative or new to ostomy
- You want to monitor output patterns
- You find reassurance in checking pouch fullness
- You're still learning ostomy management
Many users start with transparent for monitoring, then switch to opaque once comfortable with their routine.
Natura® 57mm (2¼") Coupling System
This pouch uses ConvaTec's Natura® 57mm (2¼") coupling—the most common flange size in the Natura® system.
Compatible With:
- ConvaTec Natura® 57mm flat barriers
- ConvaTec Natura® 57mm convex barriers
- Durahesive® barriers (57mm coupling)
- Durahesive Plus® barriers (57mm coupling)
- Stomahesive® barriers (57mm coupling)
- Cut-to-fit or pre-sized barrier openings (as long as coupling is 57mm)
NOT Compatible With:
- Other ConvaTec flange sizes (38mm, 45mm, 70mm)
- Other manufacturers' systems (Hollister, Coloplast, etc.)
- Hollister New Image™ 2¼" (different coupling mechanism)
⚠ Important: While multiple manufacturers make pouches with 2¼" (57mm) measurements, they use different coupling mechanisms and are NOT interchangeable. Always use ConvaTec Natura® pouches with ConvaTec Natura® barriers.
Usage & Application
Attaching the Pouch:
- If applying fresh barrier, remove paper backing after barrier is adhered to skin
- Align pouch flange with barrier coupling ring
- Press around entire ring perimeter until you hear/feel an audible "click"
- Gently tug pouch to confirm secure attachment
- Verify InvisiClose® tail is properly sealed before wearing
Emptying the Pouch:
- Empty when pouch is ⅓ to ½ full (don't wait until completely full)
- Sit on toilet and position tail between legs into bowl
- Open InvisiClose® closure by separating the seal
- Allow contents to drain completely
- Wipe tail interior and exterior clean with toilet paper
- Realign closure edges and press firmly along entire seam to reseal
- Check seal security by gently tugging before standing
Note on Opaque Pouches: Since you cannot see through the pouch to check fullness, monitor by:
- Feeling pouch weight (empty when feels moderately full)
- Time-based emptying schedule
- Learning typical fullness based on meal timing
- Emptying more frequently rather than waiting too long
Typical Emptying Frequency:
- Colostomy (formed output): 1-2 times daily
- Ileostomy (semi-formed to liquid): 4-6 times daily
- Empty more frequently after meals when output increases
When to Change Pouch:
- Per your routine wear schedule (typically 1-2 days)
- If filter becomes saturated and loses effectiveness
- If InvisiClose® closure no longer seals properly
- If film develops any tears, punctures, or damage
- If pouch develops persistent odor despite emptying
- If coupling ring shows signs of wear or doesn't click securely
Pouch Disposal:
- Empty remaining contents into toilet
- Decouple pouch from barrier by gently pulling coupling apart
- Wrap used pouch in newspaper or disposable bag
- Dispose in household trash (do not flush)
