This flat New Image™ FlexWear® barrier combines erosion-resistant extended-wear hydrocolloid with a protective tape border and extra-large cut-to-fit range (up to 4″)—ideal for larger stomas or situations requiring maximum customization.

    • Why Choose New Image™ FlexWear® with Tape Border

FlexWear® is Hollister's extended-wear hydrocolloid formula engineered to resist breakdown from output, moisture, and skin oils—supporting multi-day wear (typically 3-7 days) even with active lifestyles. The tape border adds a dual advantage: it reinforces the barrier edges to resist lift-off during movement, while providing a gentler removal experience than all-adhesive barriers (the tape lifts away from skin more gently than hydrocolloid alone). Combined with an unusually large 4″ (102mm) cut-to-fit range, this barrier accommodates even very large or irregularly-shaped stomas.

      Key Features & Benefits

      • FlexWear® extended-wear hydrocolloid resists erosion and breakdown—supports multi-day wear (3-7 days typical)
      • Cut-to-fit opening ≤ 4″ (102 mm)—one of the largest cut-to-fit ranges available, ideal for larger stomas or maximum customization
      • Tape border provides dual benefits: edge security (reduces lift) + gentler removal (less skin trauma)
      • 3½″ (89 mm) New Image™ coupling snaps securely to matching 89mm New Image™ pouches (drainable, closed, or urostomy)
      • Flat (non-convex) profile designed for regular or protruding stomas on relatively even peristomal surfaces
      • Two-piece system convenience—change pouches throughout the day without removing the barrier
      • Low-profile, flexible design for comfortable movement and discreet wear under clothing
      • Latex-free construction; sterile, single-patient use

      Clinical Applications

      Best For:

      • Larger stomas (up to 4″ diameter) requiring extensive cut-to-fit customization
      • Regular or protruding stomas on relatively flat, even peristomal surfaces
      • Patients needing extended wear time (3-7 days) to reduce barrier changes
      • Users with irregular or oval-shaped stomas needing precise custom cutting
      • Active patients requiring edge security to prevent lift during movement
      • Patients with sensitive skin who benefit from gentler tape-border removal

⚠ Important: This is a FLAT (non-convex) barrier. It is NOT designed for retracted or flush stomas. If you have a retracted stoma or uneven/creased abdomen, you may need a convex barrier instead. Consult with an ostomy nurse to determine the appropriate barrier profile for your stoma type.

      Usage & Application

      Sizing & Cutting:

      1. Measure your stoma diameter at its widest point
      2. This barrier accommodates stomas up to 4″ (102mm)—one of the largest ranges available
      3. Cut the barrier opening 2-3 mm (about ⅛″) larger than your stoma to allow for slight swelling
      4. Cut carefully with sharp scissors, creating smooth, rounded edges (no sharp corners or jagged cuts)
      5. For oval or irregular stomas, create a custom template and trace onto barrier backing before cutting

      Skin Preparation:

      1. Clean peristomal skin thoroughly with water (no soaps with oils or moisturizers)
      2. Pat skin completely dry—no moisture or oils should remain
      3. Trim hair if necessary (shave or clip close; don't wax)
      4. Ensure skin is at room temperature (not sweaty or overheated)

      Application:

      1. Warm the barrier between your hands for 30-60 seconds to activate adhesive
      2. Remove backing paper carefully
      3. Center the cut opening over your stoma
      4. Apply from bottom up, pressing the hydrocolloid center first, then smooth outward
      5. Press the tape border edges firmly, working from center toward outer edges
      6. Hold hand warmth over the entire barrier (especially edges) for 1-2 minutes
      7. Attach compatible 3½″ (89mm) New Image™ pouch and verify secure coupling

      Wear Time & Monitoring:

      • Typical wear time: 3-7 days with FlexWear® extended-wear formula
      • Empty pouch when ⅓ to ½ full to prevent weight from stressing the seal
      • Monitor tape border edges daily for signs of lifting or loosening
      • Check hydrocolloid for erosion or color changes (gray/brown discoloration may indicate breakdown)
      • Replace barrier if you notice leakage, itching, burning, or edges lifting more than ¼ inch

      Removal:

      1. Support skin with one hand
      2. Gently lift tape border edge first (easier removal than hydrocolloid)
      3. Continue lifting slowly, supporting skin as you peel
      4. Use adhesive remover wipes if needed for comfortable removal
      5. Clean and assess skin before applying new barrier

      Extra-Large Cut-to-Fit Range (≤4″)

This barrier's 4″ (102mm) maximum opening is significantly larger than most standard barriers:

      • Standard barriers: Usually 1-2″ maximum opening
      • This barrier: Up to 4″ opening

      When You Need Extra-Large:

      • Post-operative stomas that are initially very large
      • Permanent colostomies that remain larger than average
      • Herniated or prolapsed stomas requiring oversized openings
      • Irregular shapes requiring generous cutting margin
