Comparison of two ResMed AutoSet CPAP devices — the ultra-portable AirMini for travel therapy and the AirSense 11 for advanced home use — both automatically adjusting pressure across 4–20 cmH₂O to treat obstructive sleep apnea.
Loading…
Both the AirMini and AirSense 11 deploy ResMed's AutoSet algorithm — a closed-loop pressure titration system that continuously monitors the patient's breathing waveform and adjusts delivery pressure within the 4–20 cmH₂O range to match the patient's actual airway resistance at each moment of the night. AutoSet is not a fixed-pressure CPAP with a comfort label — it is a real-time response system that identifies apnoeic events, hypopnoeas, and flow limitations and delivers the minimum effective pressure required to maintain airway patency at each sleep stage. The clinical significance of AutoSet in both devices is that the minimum effective pressure varies across the night as sleep stage, body position, and REM-related muscle tone change — a fixed-pressure machine delivers the same pressure whether the patient needs it or not, while AutoSet delivers only what is required, reducing the pressure-related arousals and comfort disruptions that drive CPAP abandonment in the early weeks of therapy. The choice between the AirMini and AirSense 11 is therefore not a choice between different therapy quality levels — both deliver the same AutoSet algorithm — but between the device architecture that best fits the patient's use context.
The AirMini is the device of choice when therapy continuity during travel is the primary requirement. At 10.6 oz and fitting in a jacket pocket, it addresses the specific logistical barriers — device bulk, humidification water sourcing, and airline carry-on restrictions — that cause CPAP patients to leave their therapy behind during travel. The HumidX waterless humidification capsule eliminates the distilled water dependency that prevents consistent humidification at travel destinations, and FAA approval removes the airline carry-on barrier. The AirMini delivers the full AutoSet algorithm within this travel-optimised form factor — not a reduced therapy mode — ensuring that the patient receives the same clinical standard of treatment on travel nights as on home nights.
The limitation of the AirMini as a primary home device is its mask compatibility constraint and its absence of integrated humidification infrastructure. The AirMini is compatible only with specific AirMini-compatible mask versions using dedicated setup packs, limiting the patient's mask selection relative to the full mask range compatible with the AirSense 11. The waterless HumidX humidification, while effective for travel, delivers less adjustable humidity than the AirSense 11's heated water humidifier — patients who require high humidity levels for compliance may find the HumidX system less effective than a heated humidifier in a dry climate home environment.
Weight: 10.6 oz (300 g) Dimensions: 5.4 × 3.3 × 2.1 inches Pressure range: 4–20 cmH₂O Noise level: ~30 dBA Humidification: HumidX waterless capsule Controls: AirMini smartphone app (iOS/Android) Regulatory: FAA-approved for in-flight use Best for: Travel, portable therapy, frequent overnight travel
The AirSense 11 is the device of choice when long-term nightly home therapy is the primary requirement. Its integrated HumidAir heated humidifier with ClimateLineAir heated tube delivers consistent, adjustable humidification at the humidity and temperature levels that individual patient comfort requires — a level of humidification control that the passive HumidX waterless system cannot match for patients with high humidity requirements. The Care Check-In feature provides guided in-app therapy reviews that help patients identify and address comfort issues early in therapy, reducing the abandonment rate in newly initiated patients. The full touchscreen interface provides direct on-device therapy management without smartphone dependency.
The AirSense 11 is not a portable device — at 2.2 lb with the humidifier and its required water chamber, it is bedside equipment. Patients who travel frequently will require either the AirMini as a second travel device or acceptance that therapy will be managed differently during travel periods.

Very welcoming and informative. We went in to rent a Walker for my mom to see if she would use it. They had no rentals left so he gave us a brand new one on rental. Highly recommend this company for all your ADL needs.

Excellent experience - website faithfully represented what was in stock (which hasn't always been my experience with other vendors sadly), and local shipping was really fast - ordered on the weekend, received it on Monday in my case. Thank you for being
