This 14 Fr Foley catheter features silicone elastomer coating for smooth insertion and polished eyelets for consistent drainage. The 10 mL balloon ensures secure bladder positioning for short- to intermediate-term catheterization needs.

    • Why Silicone Elastomer Coating

Medline's silicone elastomer coating reduces insertion friction and enhances patient comfort during catheterization. The smooth surface glides easily while polished eyelets and a 10 mL balloon ensure secure placement and reliable drainage.

      Key Features & Benefits

      • Silicone elastomer–coated shaft provides low-friction insertion and gentle removal
      • 2-way design with drainage lumen and balloon inflation port for standard indwelling use
      • 10 mL retention balloon ensures secure positioning in the bladder
      • Polished dual drainage eyelets promote consistent urine flow and reduce urethral irritation
      • 14 French (14 Fr) size balances patient comfort with adequate drainage capacity
      • Color-coded funnel enables quick size identification in clinical settings
      • Radiopaque stripe allows X-ray visualization for placement confirmation (varies by lot)
      • Sterile, single-use design prevents cross-contamination
      • Contains latex with silicone coating for patients without latex sensitivities
      • Smooth coating minimizes insertion trauma and patient discomfort
      • Reliable drainage performance reduces need for early catheter changes
      • Clear size markings streamline busy clinical workflows

      Clinical Applications

Ideal for patients requiring: ✓ Short- to intermediate-term bladder drainage (typically up to 30 days) ✓ Post-operative urinary management following abdominal, pelvic, or urological surgery ✓ Accurate urine output monitoring in critical care or perioperative settings ✓ Bladder decompression due to urinary retention or obstruction ✓ Immobilized patients unable to void independently ✓ Medication instillation or bladder irrigation procedures ✓ Standard catheterization in patients without latex allergies

      Usage & Application

      Sizing & Preparation:

      • Verify 14 Fr size matches physician order and patient needs
      • Inspect sterile packaging for integrity—discard if compromised
      • Gather all supplies: catheter, sterile gloves, drapes, antiseptic solution, lubricant, prefilled 10 mL sterile water syringe, drainage bag with tubing
      • Test balloon BEFORE insertion: inflate with 10 mL sterile water, inspect for leaks or irregularities, then deflate completely
      • Ensure adequate lighting and patient privacy

      Application:

      1. Perform hand hygiene and explain procedure to patient
      2. Position patient appropriately (supine for females, supine or semi-recumbent for males)
      3. Open sterile catheter tray and establish sterile field
      4. Don sterile gloves using aseptic technique
      5. Clean urethral meatus with antiseptic solution per protocol
      6. Apply generous amount of sterile lubricant to catheter tip (5-7 inches for males, 2-3 inches for females)
      7. Insert catheter gently using appropriate technique until urine flows
      8. Advance catheter an additional 1-2 inches (to hub) to ensure balloon is fully in bladder
      9. Inflate retention balloon with exactly 10 mL sterile water (never use saline)
      10. Gently pull back on catheter until resistance is felt, confirming balloon engagement at bladder neck
      11. Secure catheter to patient's inner thigh using appropriate securement device to prevent urethral traction
      12. Connect to sterile closed drainage system positioned below bladder level
      13. Document procedure, balloon volume, and initial urine characteristics

      Monitoring the Catheter:

      • Check urine color, clarity, and volume regularly
      • Ensure tubing remains kink-free and drainage bag below bladder level
      • Monitor insertion site for signs of irritation, bleeding, or infection
      • Verify balloon remains inflated and catheter secure
      • Maintain closed drainage system to reduce infection risk

      Drainage Management:

      • Empty drainage bag when 2/3 full or per facility protocol
      • Use separate, clean collection container for each patient
      • Avoid touching drainage spout to collection container
      • Wipe spout with alcohol swab after emptying
      • Document output volume and characteristics

      Catheter Removal:

      1. Verify removal order from physician
      2. Perform hand hygiene and don clean gloves
      3. Disconnect from drainage system
      4. Use syringe to completely deflate balloon (withdraw all 10 mL)
      5. Ask patient to take deep breath and exhale
      6. Remove catheter gently with steady, smooth motion during exhalation
      7. Dispose per facility biohazard protocol
      8. Monitor patient's first void after removal
