      Important Weight-Capacity Clarification

The bed frame is rated for a total distributed load of 450 lb. This is not the same as a 450 lb user-weight capacity.

The included Aruba-200 mattress is rated for 350 lb. The user, mattress, bedding, positioning equipment, and all other items must remain within the applicable component and total-load limits. Do not advertise this package as a 450 lb patient-capacity bed.

Why Choose the ProBasics Full-Electric High-Low Bed Package?

Standard household beds do not provide powered height adjustment or independent upper-body and knee positioning. The ProBasics package allows a user or caregiver to adjust the bed for rest, repositioning, personal care, and appropriately assessed transfers using a large-button hand pendant.

The welded steel split-frame design supports delivery and servicing in separate sections, while the removable motor box simplifies cleaning and maintenance. The package also includes half rails and a contour foam mattress, eliminating the need to source the primary components separately.

      Bed-Rail and Entrapment Safety

Bed rails can create entrapment, climbing, fall, and injury hazards. Half rails are not restraints and are not automatically appropriate for every user.

A qualified healthcare professional or trained equipment provider should assess the user’s cognition, mobility, body size, behaviour, transfer method, mattress compression, rail spacing, and entrapment risk before the rails are installed or used.

Use only the specified mattress and compatible rail system. Reassess all openings whenever the mattress, rails, bed configuration, overlays, positioning equipment, or user condition changes. Remove the rails from service if they are loose, damaged, incorrectly positioned, or create an unsafe opening.

      Usage and Safety

The bed should be assembled, inspected, and demonstrated by trained personnel. Read the complete manufacturer instructions before operating, repositioning, cleaning, or servicing the bed.

Lock both locking casters before transfers, personal care, or leaving the bed stationary. Lower the bed to the safest practical height when the user is unattended, unless the care plan requires otherwise.

Keep hands, feet, bedding, cords, tubing, clothing, children, pets, and other objects away from moving deck sections, hinges, motors, rails, and pinch points.

Do not exceed the bed, mattress, rail, or accessory capacity. Do not allow more than one person on the bed unless specifically permitted by the manufacturer.

Confirm that electrical cords are undamaged and positioned away from moving components, traffic paths, liquids, and crushing hazards. Disconnect power before cleaning beneath the bed or performing service.

      Setup, Positioning, and Power-Outage Operation

      Installation and Setup

      • Confirm the room has sufficient clearance around all sides of the bed
      • Assemble the split spring sections and bed ends according to the manufacturer instructions
      • Attach and secure the motor box, high-low motor, and hand pendant
      • Confirm all motor shafts, pins, clips, and connections are properly engaged
      • Install casters and confirm the locking casters operate correctly
      • Install the mattress and secure it using the provided straps when applicable
      • Install rails only after completing a rail and entrapment assessment
      • Test every powered and manual function before placing the user in the bed

      Trendelenburg Positioning

      • Trendelenburg capability is created through bed-end setup or adjustment
      • It is not an independently powered pendant function on this two-motor model
      • Configuration should be completed by trained personnel
      • Use Trendelenburg or reverse-Trendelenburg only when clinically appropriate and authorized

      Power Failure

      • A 9V battery may be installed for limited emergency lowering capability
      • The 9V battery is not included with the package
      • Emergency battery operation is not intended for routine bed adjustment
      • A manual crank is provided for emergency bed-height adjustment
      • Review and practise the emergency procedure before it is needed
      Inspection, Cleaning, and Maintenance

      Routine Inspection

      • Test the pendant and every powered function
      • Inspect the frame, spring deck, bed ends, welds, pins, and fasteners
      • Check all motor cables, power cords, plugs, and strain-relief points
      • Test both locking casters and inspect all caster wheels
      • Inspect the half rails, clamps, release mechanisms, and rail spacing
      • Inspect the mattress cover for tears, open seams, damaged zippers, or fluid penetration
      • Confirm the mattress remains centred and secured on the deck
      • Remove the equipment from service if any component is damaged or operates abnormally

      Cleaning

      • Disconnect electrical power before cleaning the frame
      • Use a damp cloth and an appropriate healthcare cleaner
      • Follow the cleaner manufacturer’s dilution and contact-time directions
      • Do not saturate motors, controls, cables, plugs, or electrical connections
      • Do not use a hose, pressure washer, or abrasive cleaner
      • Clean the mattress cover according to the manufacturer instructions
      • Allow all surfaces to dry fully before reconnecting power or making the bed

      Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in this package?

The package includes the ProBasics PBFEBLO two-motor full-electric bed, standard/low bed ends, casters, motor system, hand pendant, one pair of PB7035 half rails, and one ARUBA-200 contour foam mattress.

Is the user-weight capacity 450 lb?

No. The 450 lb figure is the bed’s total distributed capacity, including the user, mattress, bedding, accessories, and all other loads. The included Aruba-200 mattress is rated for 350 lb, so the user must not exceed 350 lb and may need to weigh less after other loads are considered.

Does the bed lower to 10.3 inches with the casters installed?

The manufacturer lists 10.3 inches as the minimum deck height without casters and 22.3 inches as the maximum with casters. Confirm the actual height range of the delivered caster configuration before relying on a specific transfer or fall-reduction height.

Are the half rails suitable for every user?

No. Bed rails can create entrapment, climbing, and fall hazards. A patient-specific assessment must confirm that half rails are appropriate and that all openings remain within safe limits with the installed mattress and accessories.

Will the bed continue operating during a power outage?

The bed includes a 9V emergency-backup provision and a manual height-adjustment crank. The 9V battery is not included and is intended for limited emergency positioning rather than routine operation.
