The Bard Lubricath™ Tiemann Foley combines a pronounced medium-olive coude tip with hydrogel coating for navigating enlarged prostates and urethral strictures with reduced friction and trauma.

    • Why Choose Bard Lubricath™ Tiemann Foley

The Tiemann tip features a more pronounced, medium-olive curve than standard coude catheters, making it ideal for severe prostatic enlargement or challenging urethral anatomy. The Lubricath™ hydrogel coating activates on contact with moisture to create a smooth, lubricious surface that reduces insertion force and urethral irritation. This combination is specifically designed for difficult catheterizations where both guided navigation and friction reduction are critical.

      Key Features & Benefits

      Tiemann Medium-Olive Coude Tip:

      • More pronounced curve than standard coude designs
      • Specifically engineered for severe BPH or marked urethral angulation
      • Olive-shaped tip aids in finding and navigating the prostatic urethra
      • Reduces need for excessive force during difficult insertions

      Lubricath™ Hydrogel Coating:

      • Activates instantly on contact with body fluids or sterile water
      • Creates slippery, low-friction surface throughout catheter shaft
      • Reduces urethral trauma during insertion and indwelling period
      • May improve patient comfort during wear and removal

      Single Drainage Eye Design:

      • Large, smooth opening for consistent urine flow
      • Strategic positioning optimizes drainage efficiency
      • Reduces tissue irritation from multiple openings
      • Minimizes risk of mucosa being drawn into eyelets

      16 Fr with 5cc Balloon:

      • 5.3mm diameter balances drainage capacity with insertion comfort
      • 5cc balloon provides secure retention without excessive pressure
      • Standard size for routine adult Foley catheterization

      Radiopaque Construction:

      • X-ray visible for post-placement verification
      • Critical for confirming proper positioning in complex cases
      • Supports quality assurance protocols

      Clinical Applications

      Ideal for:

      • Severe benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with significant urethral obstruction
      • Failed catheterization attempts with straight-tip catheters
      • Marked prostatic enlargement requiring guided navigation
      • Urethral strictures or angulation requiring directional control
      • Post-prostatectomy patients with altered anatomy
      • Difficult catheterizations in acute urinary retention

      Typical Use:

      • Acute urinary retention requiring immediate drainage
      • Post-operative urinary management
      • Short- to intermediate-term indwelling catheterization (healthcare facility setting)

      Tiemann vs. Standard Coude

The Tiemann tip has a more pronounced, medium-olive curved shape compared to standard coude tips. This enhanced curvature provides greater directional control when navigating severe prostatic obstruction or marked urethral angulation. The olive-shaped tip design helps find the urethral passage in challenging anatomy where standard coude tips may not provide enough guidance.

      Usage & Application

      Healthcare Professional Use Only

      1. Preparation: Establish sterile field; cleanse per facility protocol
      2. Pre-insertion: Hydrogel coating activates with moisture—may pre-wet per facility protocol or allow body fluids to activate during insertion
      3. Insertion: Insert with curve facing anteriorly (toward belly); advance gently until urine flows
      4. Balloon Inflation: Advance slightly past resistance, inflate balloon with exactly 5cc sterile water (never saline)
      5. Verification: Gently retract until balloon seats at bladder neck; confirm placement (radiopaque if imaging available)
      6. Connection: Attach to closed drainage system; secure catheter to prevent traction

      Catheter Maintenance:

      • Maintain closed drainage system at all times
      • Keep drainage bag below bladder level
      • Monitor for signs of obstruction, infection, or balloon migration
      • Replace per facility protocol or if integrity compromised

Important: Natural rubber latex material—contraindicated for latex-allergic patients
