BD Nexiva Closed IV Catheter System (Dual Port, 22G x 1", 300 psi) combines Instaflash needle technology, Vialon biomaterial, and a BD Q-Syte connector in a pre-assembled closed system. Reduces blood exposure during insertion and IV therapy.

    • Why Choose the BD Nexiva Closed IV Catheter System?

Peripheral IV catheter insertion is one of the most common clinical procedures — and it is also one of the most common sources of needlestick injury, blood exposure, and catheter-related complications. The BD Nexiva Closed IV Catheter System is engineered to address all three simultaneously. The pre-assembled, all-in-one closed system design eliminates the open fluid pathway that traditional open IV systems create during catheter insertion — keeping the system sealed and significantly reducing blood exposure for the clinician at the moment of highest risk. Instaflash™ needle technology provides immediate visual confirmation of vein access with a clear, fast flash of blood in the indicator chamber, reducing the likelihood of failed or repeated insertion attempts. Vialon™ biomaterial is a proprietary catheter material that softens and becomes more flexible after insertion as it warms in the vein — reducing mechanical irritation to the vessel wall and extending catheter dwell time. The dual port design and integrated BD Q-Syte™ needle-free connector allow simultaneous medication delivery and flushing without disconnecting the line. Power injectable at up to 300 psi supports CT contrast injection use. The built-in stabilisation platform reduces catheter movement, which reduces phlebitis and infiltration risk. 22G x 1" (25 mm) — flow rate approximately 33 mL/min.

      Key Features

      • Pre-assembled closed IV system eliminates open fluid pathway during insertion to reduce blood exposure
      • Instaflash™ needle technology provides immediate visual vein access confirmation for first-stick accuracy
      • Vialon™ biomaterial catheter softens in the vein to reduce vessel wall irritation and extend dwell time
      • Dual port design allows simultaneous medication and flush access without line disconnection
      • BD Q-Syte™ needle-free connector for safe, sterile access throughout therapy
      • Integrated extension tubing with built-in stabilisation platform to minimise catheter movement
      • Power injectable rated to 300 psi for CT contrast injection use
      • 22 Gauge x 1" (25 mm) — flow rate approximately 33 mL/min
      • Sterile, single-use

      Benefits

      • Closed system design significantly reduces clinician blood exposure during catheter insertion
      • Instaflash technology improves first-stick success rate, reducing patient discomfort from repeated attempts
      • Vialon biomaterial reduces vessel wall irritation, improving catheter dwell time
      • Dual port eliminates line disconnection for medication delivery — maintaining closed system integrity
      • Stabilisation platform reduces catheter movement, lowering phlebitis and infiltration rates
      • Power injectable capability eliminates the need for a separate power-injectable catheter for CT procedures

      Clinical & Typical Applications

Hospital and clinic IV therapy settings requiring a closed peripheral IV catheter system that minimises clinician blood exposure during insertion

Emergency department and urgent care settings where first-stick success rate and rapid IV access are clinical priorities

CT and diagnostic imaging departments requiring a power injectable peripheral IV catheter rated to 300 psi for contrast agent administration

Medical-surgical and oncology units where extended catheter dwell time and reduced phlebitis are patient comfort and care quality priorities

Infection control programmes implementing closed IV catheter systems to reduce blood exposure incidents and sharps injuries among clinical staff

Any clinical setting requiring dual port peripheral IV access for simultaneous medication administration and flushing without line disconnection
