Usage & Application

Site Preparation:

1. Clean and dry skin thoroughly in the securement area
2. Trim excess hair if present (do not shave - increases infection risk)
3. Ensure skin is free from lotions, oils, or moisture
4. Assess skin integrity before application

Application:

1. Remove protective backing from hydrocolloid base
2. Position base on prepared skin area near catheter exit site
3. Route catheter/tube across the adhesive base
4. Close first strap over the line with gentle tension (not tight)
5. Position and close second strap for dual-point control
6. Ensure straps are secure but not constricting the line
7. Verify adequate slack in tubing to prevent traction on insertion site

Monitoring & Maintenance:

• Inspect securement site daily for signs of irritation, moisture, or loosening
• Check that lines remain properly secured without excessive tension
• Verify drainage/flow is not obstructed by positioning
• Replace device per facility protocol or when:
  • Adhesive becomes loose or compromised
  • Device becomes soiled
  • Skin irritation develops
  • Line needs repositioning

Removal:

1. Gently lift edges of hydrocolloid base
2. Support skin with one hand while peeling slowly
3. Remove in direction of hair growth when possible
4. Clean any adhesive residue with appropriate remover
