Usage & Application

Sizing & Preparation:

• Verify you have a compatible SenSura Mio Flex 50 mm barrier already applied
• Confirm barrier has been in place long enough for proper adhesion (typically 30-60 seconds after application)
• Check that barrier coupling area is clean and free from output or residue
• Ensure hands are clean and dry before handling pouch
• Remove pouch from packaging and inspect for any defects
• Note the flexible adhesive coupling ring on the back of the pouch

Application:

1. Remove protective backing from pouch adhesive coupling if present
2. Hold pouch with EasiClose tail pointing downward
3. Align the pouch adhesive coupling with the barrier's coupling area
4. Start attachment at 12 o'clock position
5. Press pouch coupling firmly against barrier coupling
6. Smooth around entire circumference working from top to bottom
7. Apply firm, even pressure around entire coupling ring for 30 seconds
8. Run fingers around entire coupling to verify complete adhesion
9. Gently tug on pouch to confirm secure attachment
10. Adjust pouch position for comfort if needed
11. Ensure tail closure is properly sealed before dressing
12. Allow coupling adhesive to bond fully (1-2 minutes)

Filter Management:

Emptying with EasiClose™:

1. Sit on toilet or position over collection container
2. Hold tail end over toilet bowl
3. Unfold EasiClose tail by pulling the integrated fastener apart
4. Allow contents to drain completely—you may gently compress pouch from top
5. Clean inside and outside of tail opening with toilet paper or soft tissue
6. Wipe tail edges dry to ensure proper resealing
7. Fold tail upward 3 times (about 1-inch folds)
8. Press firmly across entire width to engage EasiClose seal
9. Verify tail is securely closed before standing
10. No separate clamp needed—the integrated closure system holds securely

Monitoring & Replacement:

• Empty pouch when 1/3 to 1/2 full to prevent weight strain on barrier seal
• For ileostomy: typically empty 4-6 times daily
• For colostomy: typically empty 1-3 times daily (varies with output)
• Check coupling adhesion throughout the day—should remain secure
• Monitor for signs of leakage around barrier
• Verify filter is functioning (pouch should not balloon excessively)
• Replace pouch when:
  • Coupling adhesive becomes loose or damaged
  • Material shows signs of wear or cracking
  • Filter becomes clogged or ineffective
  • You're changing the barrier (typical 3-5 day barrier wear time)
  • Odor persists despite proper emptying
• Typical pouch wear: Can be changed daily or left on while changing barrier as needed

Pouch Changes (Without Barrier Removal):

1. Support barrier with one hand
2. Gently peel pouch away from barrier coupling starting at one edge
3. Remove slowly to avoid disturbing barrier adhesion
4. Clean barrier coupling area with soft cloth if needed
5. Allow coupling area to dry completely
6. Apply fresh pouch following application steps above
7. This flexibility allows multiple pouch changes per single barrier

Pouch Removal:

1. Empty pouch completely before removal
2. Hold barrier steady with one hand
3. Gently peel pouch away from barrier coupling starting at top edge
