This one-piece drainable pouch combines Durahesive hydrocolloid that swells to protect skin with convex support for retracted stomas. The opaque design offers privacy while the viewing window enables stoma checks when needed.

    • Why Durahesive Convex Combination

Retracted or flush stomas on soft abdomens need both gentle pressure and erosion-resistant protection. Durahesive swells on contact with output to create a protective seal while the convex profile applies directed pressure, delivering dual-action security against leaks.

      Key Features & Benefits

      • Durahesive® hydrocolloid barrier swells ("turtlenecks") on contact with effluent to protect peristomal skin and resist erosion
      • Convex barrier (approximately 3.5 mm) provides gentle pressure to promote stoma protrusion and improve seal on retracted/flush stomas
      • Cut-to-fit 10–45 mm opening accommodates various stoma sizes with personalized customization at point of care
      • Opaque pouch with viewing window provides privacy during wear while allowing stoma checks when needed
      • Integrated deodorizing filter helps vent gas to minimize ballooning and control odor

      Clinical Applications

Ideal for ostomates with:Retracted or flush stomas requiring convex pressure for protrusion ✓ Soft or uneven abdomens where convexity improves seal contact ✓ Frequent leakage issues needing dual protection of Durahesive and convexity ✓ Colostomy or ileostomy with challenging stoma placement ✓ Stomas between 10–45 mm requiring customizable cut-to-fit opening ✓ Need for erosion-resistant barrier with output that breaks down standard adhesives ✓ Preference for one-piece systems offering application simplicity ✓ Desire for discreet wear with opaque pouch and viewing window option ✓ Active lifestyles requiring secure, long-lasting adhesion

      Usage & Application

      Sizing & Preparation:

      • Measure stoma diameter accurately using measuring guide (remeasure periodically as stomas can change size)
      • Verify stoma size is within 10–45 mm cutting range
      • Add approximately ⅛″ (3mm) clearance around stoma for skin protection
      • Gather supplies: pouch, measuring guide, scissors, pen/marker, skin cleanser
      • Clean peristomal skin thoroughly with water only (no soaps with oils or lotions)
      • Pat skin completely dry—moisture prevents proper adhesion and Durahesive activation
      • If using barrier accessories (rings, paste, strips), have ready before application
      • Warm pouch between hands for improved barrier moldability

      Cutting the Barrier Opening:

      1. Remove pouch from packaging
      2. Locate cutting guide printed on barrier backing paper
      3. Use measuring guide to determine exact stoma size
      4. Add ⅛″ (3mm) to measurement for clearance
      5. Trace stoma shape plus clearance onto barrier backing paper
      6. For irregular stomas, trace actual shape rather than perfect circle
      7. Cut opening carefully with sharp scissors following traced line
      8. Ensure cut edges are smooth with no jagged points that could irritate skin
      9. For oval or irregular stomas, customize shape as needed
      10. Verify opening size against stoma before removing backing paper

      Understanding Durahesive and Convex Application:

      • Durahesive swells when it contacts moisture or output, creating protective "turtleneck" around stoma
      • This swelling helps seal minor gaps and protects skin from erosion
      • Convex profile applies gentle pressure to help retracted stomas protrude
      • Combination provides both mechanical support and chemical protection
      • Proper application is critical—too much pressure can cause skin damage
      • Some firmness during wear is normal; pain is not

      Application:

      1. Remove barrier backing paper just before application to prevent drying
      2. Warm prepared pouch between hands for 30-60 seconds
      3. Position yourself comfortably with good view of stoma
      4. Hold pouch with drain tail pointing downward
      5. Support peristomal skin with one hand to prevent excessive convex pressure
      6. Center cut opening over stoma—ensure no skin is exposed between stoma and barrier
      7. Apply convex side against skin with gentle, even pressure
      8. Do not press too hard—convex will naturally create gentle pressure
      9. Apply from bottom up to eliminate air pockets
      10. Smooth barrier firmly around entire perimeter
      11. Press hand over entire barrier for 30-60 seconds to activate adhesive
      12. Use body heat by holding hand over barrier for additional 1-2 minutes
      13. Allow Durahesive to warm and begin conforming to skin contours
      14. Ensure all edges are fully adhered
      15. Verify drain tail closure is secure before dressing

      Monitoring Convex Fit:

      • Check for appropriate pressure—should feel gentle firmness, not pain
      • Stoma should appear slightly more protruded than before application
      • No blanching (whitening) of skin around stoma—indicates too much pressure
      • If skin appears white or painful, remove immediately and consult healthcare provider
      • Monitor peristomal skin closely during first few applications with convex products

      Using the Viewing Window:

      • Lift or open viewing window flap when stoma inspection is needed
      • Check stoma color, appearance, and health without removing pouch
      • Verify barrier placement and seal integrity around stoma
      • Assess Durahesive "turtlenecking" effect if visible
      • Monitor output characteristics through window
      • Close window securely after inspection for continued privacy
      • Opaque pouch maintains discretion during normal wear

      Understanding Durahesive Performance:

      • Durahesive begins swelling shortly after application when exposed to body heat and moisture
      • Creates protective seal around stoma opening as it swells
      • "Turtleneck" effect becomes more pronounced with exposure to output
      • Helps fill minor gaps and irregularities in peristomal plane
      • Provides chemical resistance to erosion from digestive enzymes
      • May notice slight thickening of barrier around stoma during wear—this is normal
      • Swelling helps maintain seal integrity throughout extended wear

      Filter Management:

      • Integrated filter allows gas to vent automatically while blocking odor
      • Filter typically located at top of pouch
      • Do not cover or obstruct filter during wear
      • Filter helps prevent pouch ballooning throughout the day
      • If filter becomes wet or clogged, it may lose effectiveness
      • Replace pouch if filter stops functioning properly
      • Some ostomates use pouch deodorants in addition to filter

      Emptying the Pouch:

      1. Empty when pouch is approximately ⅓ to ½ full
      2. Sit on toilet or position over collection container
      3. Hold tail end over toilet bowl
      4. Open clamp-free closure per manufacturer's instructions for your specific model
      5. Allow contents to drain completely—you may gently compress pouch from top
      6. Clean inside and outside of tail opening with toilet paper or soft tissue
      7. Rinse tail with water if desired for cleanliness
      8. Wipe tail edges dry to ensure proper resealing
      9. Close tail securely per closure design
      10. Verify closure is secure before standing
      11. For ileostomy: typically empty 4-6 times daily
      12. For colostomy: typically empty 1-3 times daily (varies with output)

      Monitoring Throughout Wear:

      • Check barrier edges daily for signs of lifting or loosening
      • Monitor for any output leaking under barrier
      • Watch for Durahesive swelling around stoma—indicates proper function
      • Typical wear time varies based on output and individual factors
      • Assess peristomal skin condition at each change—watch for pressure marks from convexity
      • Verify stoma continues to protrude adequately with convex support
      • Check that filter is functioning (pouch should not balloon excessively)
      • Monitor for skin irritation, redness, or breakdown
      • Note any changes in stoma size requiring barrier adjustment
      • Replace pouch when:
        • Barrier begins lifting at edges
        • Leakage or odor occurs
        • Durahesive becomes oversaturated or breaks down
        • Skin irritation or pressure damage develops
        • Adhesion weakens
        • Filter becomes ineffective
        • Scheduled wear time is reached

      Pouch Removal:

      1. Empty pouch completely before removal
      2. Support peristomal skin with one hand
      3. Gently peel barrier away from skin starting at top edge
      4. Remove slowly—Durahesive and convex adhesion can be strong
      5. Use adhesive remover wipes if needed for comfortable removal
      6. Avoid pulling or tearing at skin during removal
      7. Note any Durahesive residue on skin—this is normal
      8. Discard used pouch in appropriate waste receptacle
      9. Clean peristomal skin thoroughly with warm water to remove any residue
      10. Pat skin completely dry
      11. Inspect skin carefully for any pressure marks from convexity or irritation
      12. Allow skin to air dry 1-2 minutes before applying new pouch
      13. Assess condition of removed barrier—Durahesive swelling indicates proper function

      Convex Safety Considerations:

      • Convex products apply pressure—use only when clinically indicated
      • Not appropriate for all stoma types—consult ostomy nurse if unsure
      • Excessive pressure can cause skin damage, ischemia, or hernias
      • If redness, blanching, or pain occurs, discontinue use immediately
      • Regular skin assessment is critical with convex products
      • Some ostomates need convex only temporarily during healing
