This convex New Image™ barrier combines gentle convex support with Flextend® extended-wear hydrocolloid that resists erosion for longer, more reliable wear—ideal for retracted or flush stomas on soft, uneven abdomens.

    • Why Choose New Image™ Convex Flextend®

Retracted or flush stomas need both convex support to encourage protrusion AND durable adhesive that won't break down quickly. Flextend® extended-wear hydrocolloid is engineered to resist erosion from output better than standard adhesives, helping you achieve multi-day wear even on challenging abdomens. The convex shape provides the gentle, directed pressure needed to help the stoma protrude for better collection.

      Key Features & Benefits

      • Convex design applies gentle, directed pressure to help retracted/flush stomas protrude for better output collection
      • Flextend® extended-wear hydrocolloid engineered to resist erosion and breakdown—supports longer wear time
      • Cut-to-fit opening ≤ 1″ (25 mm) for precise, chair-side customization to your stoma size
      • 1¾″ (45 mm) New Image™ coupling snaps securely to matching New Image™ pouches (drainable, closed, or urostomy)
      • Two-piece convenience—change pouches throughout the day without removing the barrier
      • Low-profile, comfortable fit under clothing; latex-free construction
      • Erosion resistance helps maintain seal integrity even with liquid or semi-liquid output

      Clinical Applications

      Best For:

      • Ileostomy/colostomy patients with retracted or flush stomas
      • Soft, uneven, or creased peristomal abdomens
      • Patients needing extended wear time (3-5+ days typical)
      • Active patients who need reliable adhesion during movement
      • Situations where standard flat barriers fail to maintain seal

⚠ Important: Convex barriers may not be appropriate for all patients. Consult with an ostomy nurse to determine if convex is right for your stoma type. Monitor for pressure-related skin irritation and discontinue use if redness, pain, or breakdown occurs.

      Usage & Application

      Sizing & Preparation:

      1. Measure your stoma diameter at its widest point
      2. Cut the barrier opening 2-3 mm (about ⅛″) larger than your stoma to allow for slight swelling
      3. Maximum opening size: 1″ (25 mm)—if your stoma is larger, select a different barrier size
      4. Cut carefully with smooth, rounded edges (no sharp corners)

      Application:

      1. Clean peristomal skin and pat completely dry (no lotions, oils, or moisture)
      2. Warm the barrier between your hands for 30-60 seconds to activate adhesive
      3. Remove backing and center over stoma
      4. Apply from bottom up, pressing firmly from center outward
      5. Hold hand warmth over barrier for 1-2 minutes to enhance adhesion
      6. Attach compatible 1¾″ New Image™ pouch and verify secure coupling

      Wear Time & Care:

      • Typical wear time: 3-5 days with Flextend® extended-wear formula (varies by individual)
      • Empty pouch when ⅓ to ½ full to prevent weight from compromising seal
      • Inspect barrier edges daily for signs of erosion or lifting
      • Replace if you notice leakage, odor between barrier and skin, or discomfort
