Usage & Application

For individuals with colostomies or ileostomies who prefer a flat, two-piece barrier system with standard wear capability and customizable sizing.

To prepare and apply:

1. Cleanse the peristomal skin with warm water and pat completely dry
2. Measure your stoma size using a measuring guide or template
3. Trace the measured size onto the barrier's cut-to-fit opening area
4. Carefully cut the opening to match your stoma size—cut slightly larger (1/16″-1/8″) than the stoma to prevent contact with the barrier edge
5. Remove the backing paper from the barrier
6. Warm the barrier between your hands for 30-60 seconds to improve adhesion
7. Center the cut opening over your stoma
8. Press the barrier firmly onto the skin, starting from the stoma and working outward to eliminate air pockets
9. Hold gentle pressure for 30 seconds to ensure complete adhesion
10. Attach your compatible Hollister two-piece pouch to the 2-1/4″ flange

Wear time: FlexWear standard-wear barriers typically support 1-2 days of wear, depending on individual output characteristics and activity level. Change when you notice barrier erosion, leakage, itching, or burning sensations, or per your routine schedule.

Removal: Gently peel the barrier from top to bottom while supporting your skin. Use adhesive remover if needed to prevent skin trauma.

Stoma measurement: Stomas can change size during the first 6-8 weeks after surgery. Measure regularly and adjust your barrier cut size as needed.
