The FlexWear® Soft Convex barrier combines gentle convex shaping with extended-wear hydrocolloid adhesive and a tapered border for secure, comfortable sealing on flush or retracted stomas.

    • Why Choose FlexWear® Soft Convex

The soft convex profile applies gentle, even pressure around the stoma to help it protrude slightly above the skin surface—critical for flush or retracted stomas where output can undermine the adhesive and cause leaks. Unlike firm convex barriers that can be uncomfortable, the soft convex design molds to body contours while still providing the directional pressure needed for effective pouching. The tapered border creates a thin, streamlined edge that reduces bulk under clothing and minimizes the visible "ring" often associated with ostomy barriers. FlexWear® extended-wear hydrocolloid provides reliable adhesion for 3-7 days, even with active lifestyles or challenging output.

      Key Features & Benefits

      Soft Convex Profile:

      • Applies gentle, directed pressure to help flush or retracted stomas protrude
      • Softer, more comfortable than rigid convex barriers
      • Molds to body contours and uneven peristomal skin
      • Helps prevent output from undermining barrier seal
      • Particularly beneficial for soft or creased abdomens
      • Creates better seal on challenging anatomies

      FlexWear® Extended-Wear Hydrocolloid:

      • Erosion-resistant formula maintains seal for 3-7 days
      • Durable adhesion even with liquid or semi-liquid output
      • Resists breakdown from digestive enzymes and moisture
      • Reduces frequency of barrier changes
      • Fewer changes = less skin trauma and lower cost per day
      • Reliable performance through daily activities

      Tapered Border Design:

      • Thin, streamlined edge reduces visible bulk under clothing
      • More discreet appearance than traditional flat-edge barriers
      • Improves comfort—less "rim feel" against body
      • Reduces edge lift during movement
      • Gentler transition between barrier and skin
      • Better aesthetics for body confidence

      Cut-to-Fit up to 2" (51mm):

      • Customize opening to match your exact stoma size
      • Accommodates stomas from very small up to 2 inches diameter
      • Trim precisely for proper fit (opening should be 2-3mm larger than stoma)
      • Flexibility for changing stoma size post-surgery
      • Single product covers wide range of stoma dimensions

      2¾" (70mm) Coupling System:

      • Compatible with all Hollister 2¾" (70mm) New Image™ pouches
      • Secure click-lock connection
      • Change pouches without removing barrier
      • Mid-size flange between 2¼" and 3½" options
      • Balances adhesive surface area with compact profile

      Integrated Belt Tabs:

      • Optional belt attachment for additional security
      • Helps stabilize barrier during physical activity
      • Useful for herniated or irregular stomas
      • Provides extra confidence during exercise or work
      • Belt loops positioned for comfortable belt wear

      Clinical Applications

      Ideal for:

      • Flush or retracted stomas (stoma sits at or below skin level)
      • Uneven, creased, or soft peristomal skin
      • Post-operative soft abdomens
      • Patients with weight changes causing skin folds
      • Stomas requiring gentle pressure to protrude for proper drainage
      • Users experiencing frequent leaks with flat barriers
      • Parastomal hernias causing uneven surfaces

      Ostomy Types:

      • Colostomy (formed to semi-formed output)
      • Ileostomy (liquid to semi-formed output)
      • Urostomy (liquid urine output)

      Common Scenarios:

      • Recent weight gain creating abdominal creases
      • Post-surgical swelling causing temporary retraction
      • Skin folds around stoma preventing flat seal
      • Active lifestyles requiring secure barrier during movement

      Soft Convex Technology

How Soft Convex Works: The convex shape creates a gentle "dome" that applies pressure around the stoma base. This pressure:

      • Helps stoma protrude slightly above skin surface
      • Creates a better angle for output to enter pouch directly
      • Reduces risk of output flowing under barrier edges
      • Supports peristomal skin tissue

      Soft vs. Firm Convex:

      • Soft convex (this product): Comfortable, molds to body, suitable for most users needing convex support
      • Firm convex: More aggressive pressure for severe retraction; may be less comfortable for extended wear

When Convex is Needed: Convex barriers are recommended by ostomy nurses when:

      • Stoma doesn't protrude at least ½ inch above skin
      • Peristomal skin has creases, folds, or uneven surface
      • Output frequently leaks under barrier edges
      • Flat barriers consistently fail to maintain seal

      Usage & Application

      1. Measure stoma: Use measuring guide to determine stoma diameter
      2. Cut opening: Cut barrier opening 2-3mm (⅛ inch) larger than stoma size, up to 2" (51mm) maximum
      3. Prepare skin: Clean and dry peristomal skin completely; ensure no moisture, soap residue, or lotions remain
      4. Position barrier: Center opening over stoma with convex side against skin
      5. Apply with pressure: Press firmly around entire barrier, especially edges; hold for 30-60 seconds to activate adhesive with body warmth
      6. Secure tapered border: Smooth tapered edges outward for seamless transition
      7. Attach pouch: Snap compatible 2¾" (70mm) pouch onto coupling ring until audible click confirms secure connection
      8. Optional belt: Thread ostomy belt through belt tabs if additional security desired

      Wear Time:

      • Typical wear: 3-7 days depending on output type and activity level
      • Change sooner if leakage, odor, or skin irritation occurs
      • Monitor barrier edges daily for signs of erosion

      Removal:

      • Support skin with one hand while gently peeling barrier edge with other hand
      • Remove slowly and carefully
      • Use adhesive remover wipes if needed for comfortable removal
