Medi Manumed RFX (Silver, Size 1, Left) immobilises the wrist and forearm with dual aluminium palmar and dorsal splints. Breathable Airtex material, adjustable straps, and a wide opening support comfortable hygienic extended immobilisation.

    • Why Choose the Medi Manumed RFX?

There is a meaningful clinical difference between a wrist brace that limits movement and a wrist and forearm orthosis that immobilises the joint. The Manumed RFX is the latter. For conditions that require strict wrist immobilisation — distal radius fractures managed conservatively or post-operatively, severe ligamentous injuries, acute tenosynovitis, or post-cast transition — the RFX provides the level of restriction that a standard wrist brace cannot achieve. The dual aluminium splints run on both the palmar and dorsal surfaces of the wrist and extend up the forearm, creating a rigid structural frame that immobilises the wrist joint in all planes while extending support to the forearm segment — reducing rotational movement that a wrist-only splint permits. This extended forearm coverage is what distinguishes the RFX from standard wrist splints and makes it appropriate as a cast alternative or post-cast continuation. The Airtex breathable fabric is significantly more comfortable and hygienic than a plaster or fibreglass cast during extended wear — skin can breathe, the orthosis can be removed for hygiene, and the adjustable straps allow swelling to be accommodated as it resolves. The wide opening design makes application easier for users with limited hand function due to pain or weakness. Size 1 for small wrist circumference. Left hand specific.

      Key Features

      • Dual aluminium splints on palmar and dorsal surfaces immobilise the wrist in all planes
      • Extended forearm design reduces rotational movement beyond the wrist joint
      • Left hand specific for correct anatomical fit
      • Size 1 — small wrist circumference range
      • Wide opening design for easier application with limited hand function
      • Adjustable straps for secure, customisable fit during swelling resolution
      • Breathable Airtex fabric — more comfortable and hygienic than a cast for extended wear
      • Allows full finger movement while the wrist is immobilised
      • Silver colour

      Benefits

      • Dual splint system provides the level of wrist immobilisation appropriate for fractures and severe injuries
      • Extended forearm coverage reduces rotational wrist movement that wrist-only splints permit
      • Breathable Airtex construction is significantly more comfortable and hygienic than a plaster cast
      • Wide opening allows easier self-application and removal for users with pain or reduced hand function
      • Adjustable straps accommodate changing swelling during injury recovery
      • Finger movement is preserved during wrist immobilisation

      Clinical & Typical Applications

Distal radius fracture patients managed conservatively or post-operatively requiring strict wrist immobilisation as an alternative to or continuation from a plaster cast

Severe wrist sprain patients with significant ligamentous injury requiring extended immobilisation for healing beyond the capacity of a standard wrist brace

Acute tenosynovitis or de Quervain's tenosynovitis patients requiring strict wrist immobilisation to rest the tendon sheath and reduce inflammation

Post-cast wrist patients transitioning from a plaster or fibreglass cast to a removable orthosis for the latter stages of fracture rehabilitation

Patients with carpal instability or wrist ligament injury requiring an extended support that controls both wrist flexion/extension and forearm rotation

Occupational therapists fabricating or prescribing a wrist and forearm orthosis for patients requiring strict immobilisation as part of a hand therapy programme

      Usage & Care

Sizing: Size 1 fits small wrist circumferences. Confirm measurements against Medi's Manumed RFX sizing guide before ordering. Left hand specific — confirm the correct side before ordering.

Application: Open the wide opening and slide the left hand into the orthosis with the palmar splint beneath the wrist and the dorsal splint on top. Fasten the adjustable straps firmly from the wrist upward.

Splint Adjustment: The aluminium splints may be gently adjusted to the correct anatomical position if needed. Do not overbend the splints. Seek guidance from your healthcare provider before adjusting.

Wearing: Wear as directed by your healthcare provider. For fracture management, the orthosis should remain in place continuously as directed. For other conditions, follow the prescribed wearing schedule.

Hygiene: The removable design allows the orthosis to be removed for bathing and skin inspection. Inspect the skin under the splint daily for pressure marks or skin breakdown.

Washing: Hand wash the fabric component with mild detergent and warm water. Air dry. Do not machine wash with the aluminium splints in place. Wipe splints clean with a damp cloth.
