GentleCath™ features straight, tapered tip and polished eyelets for smooth insertion and reliable drainage. Standard 16″ male length allows complete bladder emptying. Orange color-coded funnel makes 16 Fr size ID quick at a glance.

    • Why 16 Fr for Intermittent Self-Catheterization

The 16 Fr size is the most commonly prescribed diameter for male intermittent catheterization—large enough to provide efficient drainage flow while remaining comfortable for most users. The straight tip design works well for patients with normal urethral anatomy, offering simpler insertion technique compared to coudé catheters, making it ideal for long-term self-catheterization routines.

      Key Features & Benefits

      • Straight tip with polished, fire-smoothed eyelets for comfort and steady flow
      • 16 French (16 Fr) - most common size for male intermittent catheterization
      • 16″ (40 cm) male length for complete bladder emptying
      • Uncoated PVC - use with your preferred sterile lubricant
      • Latex-free, DEHP-free construction for safety
      • Color-coded orange funnel for quick 16 Fr size identification
      • Sterile, single-use packaging for infection prevention
      • Standard funnel fits common drainage accessories if needed

      Clinical Applications

Appropriate for:Men requiring intermittent self-catheterization with normal urethral anatomy
✓ Neurogenic bladder requiring regular drainage
✓ Urinary retention from various causes
      ✓ Post-operative bladder management
✓ Patients trained in self-catheterization technique
✓ Situations where straight tip is appropriate (no severe BPH obstruction)

Important: Straight tip catheters work best for patients without severely enlarged prostate or urethral strictures. Patients with significant BPH or difficult anatomy may require coudé (curved) tip instead.

Usage & Application - Patient Guidance

For Self-Catheterization Under Clinical Direction: This catheter is for intermittent self-catheterization as instructed by your healthcare provider. Proper training is essential for safe, effective use.

      Preparation:

      1. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water
      2. Gather supplies: catheter, sterile lubricant, receptacle
      3. Open sterile catheter package carefully
      4. Do not touch the catheter shaft or tip

      Lubrication:

      • This is an uncoated catheter requiring sterile lubricant
      • Apply generous amount of sterile, water-based lubricant to catheter tip
      • 16 Fr requires adequate lubrication for comfortable insertion

      Insertion Technique (Male):

      1. Hold penis at 90-degree angle to body
      2. Insert catheter gently and slowly with straight tip leading
      3. Continue inserting full 16″ length until urine flows
      4. If resistance is met, do NOT force - relax and breathe deeply
      5. Once urine flows, advance slightly further to ensure complete drainage
      6. The 16 Fr diameter provides efficient drainage flow

      Drainage:

      • Allow bladder to empty completely into toilet or receptacle
      • 16 Fr size provides faster drainage than smaller diameters
      • Typical drainage takes 2-4 minutes
      • Do not rush the process
      • Drain until flow stops completely

      Removal:

      1. When flow stops, gently withdraw catheter slowly
      2. Pinch catheter during removal to prevent dribbling
      3. Dispose of catheter in appropriate waste receptacle
      4. Wash hands again after procedure

      Frequency:

      • Follow your healthcare provider's prescribed catheterization schedule
      • Typical schedules: every 4-6 hours or as directed
      • Never skip scheduled catheterizations
      • Consistent schedule prevents complications and maintains bladder health

      When to Contact Healthcare Provider:

      • Unable to insert catheter despite proper technique
      • Blood in urine (more than slight pinkish tinge)
      • Pain during or after catheterization
      • Fever, chills, or signs of infection
      • Cloudy or foul-smelling urine
