Low-profile foam with soft silicone border for light exudate management. Breathable, shower-friendly backing. Conforms to body contours for comfortable, atraumatic dressing changes.

    • Why Soft Silicone Adhesive for Wound Care

Traditional adhesive dressings use aggressive glues that bond strongly to both healthy skin and fragile wound edges, causing pain and tissue damage during removal—particularly problematic for elderly patients, frequent dressing changes, or fragile skin conditions. Soft silicone technology creates a gentle tack that securely holds the dressing in place without forming strong chemical bonds to skin proteins. During removal, the silicone releases cleanly without stripping skin cells or disrupting newly formed tissue, making dressing changes virtually pain-free. This atraumatic removal is especially critical for wounds requiring frequent assessment or when surrounding skin is already compromised. The thin foam core provides just enough absorption for light exudate while maintaining the moist wound environment that promotes healing, and the flexible construction conforms to challenging body contours like heels, elbows, and curved surfaces where rigid dressings fail.

      Key Features

      • Thin, flexible foam: low-profile design for discreet wear and easy contouring
      • Soft silicone adhesive border: secure fixation with gentle, pain-free removal
      • Light exudate management: absorbs and disperses minimal to light drainage
      • Breathable backing: allows vapor transmission while repelling external moisture
      • Shower-friendly design: water-resistant outer film for bathing protection
      • 5″ × 5″ size: provides adequate coverage with border overlap for secure seal
      • Low-friction outer surface: reduces shear forces and dressing roll-up
      • Moist wound environment: maintains optimal humidity for healing
      • Latex-free construction: safe for latex-sensitive patients
      • Sterile single-use: individually packaged for infection control

      Benefits

      • Conforms comfortably to difficult anatomical areas (heels, elbows, sacrum, joints)
      • Reduces pain and trauma during dressing changes for patient comfort
      • Protects peri-wound skin from adhesive damage and maceration
      • Discreet profile fits under clothing and reduces dressing bulk
      • Extends wear time compared to gauze on lightly exuding wounds
      • Shower-resistant for improved patient hygiene and convenience
      • Suitable for fragile or elderly skin without causing trauma

      Clinical Applications

Superficial pressure injuries: Stage I or shallow Stage II pressure ulcers
      Partial-thickness burns: first-degree and superficial second-degree burns
Donor sites: skin graft harvest areas with light exudate
Post-operative wounds: surgical incisions with minimal drainage
Abrasions and skin tears: traumatic wounds with light bleeding or serous drainage
Fragile skin wounds: elderly patients requiring frequent dressing changes
Prophylactic protection: high-risk areas prone to pressure or friction injury
Difficult anatomical sites: heels, elbows, sacrum edges requiring conforming coverage

      Usage & Application

For healthcare professionals and trained caregivers managing lightly exuding acute or chronic wounds in hospital, long-term care, or home healthcare settings.

Wound assessment: Biatain Silicone Lite is designed for wounds with light exudate. For wounds with moderate to heavy drainage, consider a thicker foam dressing with higher absorbency.

      To apply:

      1. Cleanse the wound per facility protocol using appropriate wound cleanser
      2. Pat peri-wound skin completely dry—silicone adhesive requires dry skin for secure fixation
      3. Select dressing size that provides at least 1 inch (2-3 cm) overlap of intact skin on all sides of the wound
      4. Remove the dressing from sterile packaging
      5. Remove the release liner(s) from the silicone adhesive border
      6. Center the foam pad over the wound without stretching
      7. Gently smooth the silicone border onto surrounding skin, working from the center outward
      8. Avoid applying tension or stretching the dressing during application
      9. Ensure the border adheres completely with no lifted edges or gaps

      Wear time and monitoring:

      • Inspect dressing daily through the transparent or translucent backing if possible
      • Change dressing when:
        • Exudate approaches within 0.5 cm of the dressing border (indicates saturation)
        • Leakage occurs at dressing edges
        • Border adhesion fails or edges lift
        • Dressing becomes soiled from external sources
        • Per routine dressing change schedule (typically every 3-7 days for light exudate wounds)
      • Do not leave in place longer than 7 days even if not saturated

      To remove:

      1. Gently lift one corner of the dressing border
      2. Support the skin with one hand while slowly peeling the dressing parallel to the skin surface
      3. The soft silicone should release cleanly without causing pain or skin stripping
      4. If resistance is felt, pause and approach from a different angle
      5. Cleanse any residual wound exudate from surrounding skin

Shower/bathing: The water-resistant backing allows patients to shower with the dressing in place. Pat dry after bathing. Avoid soaking in baths or swimming pools as prolonged water immersion may compromise adhesion.

      Important notes:

      • For light exudate only—upgrade to higher absorbency foam for moderate/heavy drainage
      • Not suitable for infected wounds without appropriate antimicrobial therapy
      • Not for use on third-degree burns or full-thickness wounds with exposed bone, tendon, or muscle
      • Monitor peri-wound skin for maceration—if present, dressing may be retaining too much moisture
      • Can be used under compression therapy if needed
